The whole world is traveling again, and while we think that is wonderful, it has caused some overcrowding in the top destinations in Europe during peak season. Larger cr owds than ever coupled with the summer heat have everyone looking to shoulder season travel. Check out these spring shoulder season destinations you may want to consider for April and May!
Since Easter falls on the 31st of March, Italy comes back to life just in time for shoulder season. Explore the Sicilian capital of Palermo with a private guide visiting culturally rich churches and museums of Greek, Spanish, and Roman influence. The countryside of the island is blooming with almond and olive groves inspiring the local cuisine. Taormina’s enchanting coastline offers never-ending views of the Mediterranean and Mount Etna whether you prefer to lay beachside or hike mountainside.
Spring in Paris is colorful and serene (comparatively!). The pleasant weather is ideal for strolling along the Seine and exploring charming neighborhoods. Spring also marks the beginning of outdoor cafe culture, allowing visitors to relish French cuisine in the open air. Remember that you’ll need to reconsider visiting this summer as the 2024 Summer Games begin in July.
April is said to be the best month to visit Vietnam as the temperatures are warming and rainfall is diminishing all over the country. The crowds may not be as sparse in tourist destinations, but with the right accommodations you’ll find a secluded oasis within Vietnam. There are endless activities to partake in from culinary experiences in rice fields and street markets to boat rides through Mekong Delta and hiking to mystical caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
To get your Europe fix before the chaos of summer travel, visit the towns of the ever charming Andalusia region. Seville is where you can witness the vibrant Feria de Abril (April Fair) with flamenco dancing, music, and traditional festivities. Granada boasts beautiful landscapes and historical sites without the summer crowds (or heat!). End your trip in Marbella savoring the coast, exploring the charming Old Town, and enjoying the amenities of a luxury resort.
Botswana during April and May marks the end of the rainy season and the start of cooling temperatures. You might catch a glimpse of antelope fights as males perform for breeding season. Experience the Okavango Delta coming to life with lush vegetation, attracting a myriad of animals, including elephants, buffalo, and vibrant birdlife. Embark on game drives and mokoro safaris in the flourishing landscapes all with the advantage of low season prices.
